Parents don't ever get memes, only when the two mix, it's typically comedic golden. Like when moms began figuring out what "Netflix and Chill" really meant—or when 2022 became the yr of the Dad Joke.

Enter the latest trend: "Don't talk to me or my son ever again."

First off, imagine where you'd hear the phrase "don't talk to me or my son ever once again." Perhaps the speaker's son—let'southward call him Billy—got caught upwards with the neighborhood troublemaker and was busted smoking cigarettes in the Target parking lot or drawing penises on a classroom door. When the mischief-maker knocks on Billy's front door, Baton's mom or dad is standing there with Billy behind them: "Don't talk to me or my son e'er again."

According to Know Your Meme, the punchline was originated in a 2022 mail service involving the anime Cowboy Bebop. Tumblr user splendidland uploaded an image of the character Spike Spiegel and a snack-size version of Spiegel with the words "don't ever talk to me or my son ever again" superimposed in red font. (The character doesn't have a child in the serial, but the idea is that this mini-me is the "son" in this context.)

Splendidland's mail service did fine on Tumblr, racking up around six,300 notes. A considerable success, but not what you would call viral.

Know Your Meme points out that the meme and so laid low for a while, then fabricated a comeback with help from Yoshi. A Tumblr post from konkeydongcountry in August 2022 featured ii plush Yoshis, one larger than the other. This fourth dimension the explanation was "don't you lot Always talk to me or my son that way again"—tweaked slightly from the Cowboy Bebop post.

Soon after, in October, the meme trickled over to Twitter, retaining its new Yoshi motif. Twitter user @yoshibot posted a motion-picture show of a life-size Yoshi costume and a Photoshopped version that makes it look shorter. The caption amend matched the Spiegel post, but differing by two words. "don't you ever talk to me or my son once again" adds in the "y'all" but omits the "e'er." All three incarnation have the same bones message only are linguistically simply a smidge removed from ane another.

Since the Yoshi posts, a steady meme-mentum has built. As of Feb and March 2016, the meme has exploded in popularity all over Tumblr And Twitter, even making information technology to the elusive meme groups of Facebook.

The phase ever seems to vary—merely you lot get the point. The meme typically hinges on a "son" who is only a tinier copy of the parent, unremarkably created through some sort of image editing. Many people have also merely turned themselves into the son. True mini-mes.

But, like any good meme that takes over our dashboards and feeds, the thought mutates. Either people interpret it in a new light or discover another way to exhibit the ethos of the meme. For example, people have started to find miniature versions of the parent IRL instead of editing the image.

Some have also institute a manner to poke a little fun at the discipline of the picture they're using. Case in bespeak: identifying Justin Bieber as Ellen DeGeneres' son. He might non be physically smaller than the talk testify host, but it totally looks similar he's descended from her lesbian lineage.

Another popular play on the meme features none other than Bernie Sanders and a pint-sized supporter and then dedicated that he might too exist the presidential candidate's son: Danny DeVito.

At that place are also riffs where the seize with teeth-sized sons and their parent are deliciously hilarious.

In other versions, the meme is just escalated to other levels. Like this son of a son of a son of a son… you go it.

There'south no fashion to quite predict how the meme might evolve next. What we practice know is that there's plenty of overprotective "parents" out there on the Net right now, keeping their sons safe and sound.
